The Breeder Series - Don't Put Baby In The Corner

Fighter Command may be the baby of the 2024 Eureka field both in age and experience as the 3yo has had just 11 starts but he has recorded eight wins in those 11 starts including a last start win in the $80,000 The Beautide at Elwick on August 3.

Fighter Command, which will fill the slot held by Tasracing, is raced by his breeders which are headed by Peter Hayes.

The son of Always B Miki won two of three starts as a 2yo and has won six of eight starts this season for the all-conquering team of Jess Tubbs and Greg Sugars in Victoria.

Fighter Command is the third foal from the well-performed mare Spitfire Rose whose 13 wins included a pair of victories in the Tasmanian George Johnson on her way to stakes of $122,055.

Fighter Command’s win in The Beautide is the first major stakes win for this maternal family for some 30 years.

In the early nineties the family was constantly in the headlines due to the deeds of the Brian Hancock trained Weona Warrior which won the 1994 Inter Dominion and 1994 South Australian Cup on his way to being voted Australian Harness Horse of the Year that season.

Weona Warrior’s half-brother Weona Chief won a Victorian 4yo Championship and a heat of the 1990 Inter Dominion in Adelaide before finishing third in that year’s final won by his stablemate Thorate.
