Racenet Discovery Stakes will decide TAB’s runner
HOPEFUL Queensland trainer Trent Dawson echoed the sentiments of many by welcoming TAB’s decision to use a “qualifying” race to fill its TAB Eureka slot.
TAB’s slot became available when its original runner Frankie Ferocious was sidelined with a throat issue requiring surgery.
Dawson, who trains For Real Life, excitedly declared he would chase TAB’s slot through the Racenet Discovery Stakes at Menangle on August 31.
“It’s a lifeline, that’s great,” he said. “Providing my fella goes well this week, we’ll head to Sydney to have a crack.
“I’m sure we’ll be one of many. It should make for a terrific race just a week out from the big one.”
Fellow Queenslander Speak The Truth, talented NSW pacer Dougs Platter and Victorian’s Captain Hammerhead - who have all had interrupted preparations - are others suited by TAB’s decision.
TAB will select its TAB Eureka slot runner from the Racenet Discovery Stakes, but the conditions mean it doesn’t have to be the winner.
